In today's class, we had implemented the Cornell Note Taking System with the documentary class had been watching, "Corporation".
The first topic was "The Cornell Note Taking System". The Cornell Method is a system for taking, organizing, and reviewing notes. Professor Walter Paul of Cornell University devised this method in the 1950s. The strategy involves learners dividing their paper into two columns with a row across the bottom. I knew the existence of this system through an application called Notion. However, it was my first time to actually try it out. (I’m feeling its effectiveness. After 3 weeks had passed, I  still remember the details of this class clearer than other classes). The link below leads to the note I took.
The second topic was the customer strategy of the corporation. To make connections with people and get lifetime's interests continuously from their young days, banks tend to appeal to university students. The special campaign unable students to get about 200 dollars worth of tokens by joining the bank. In fact, there is a similar advertisement style of using smartphone discounts in Japan. A popular commercial from UQ mobile and Y mobile with a fun theme song had succeeded to get numerous new young users. It feels a little absurd but before the class, I never had a point of view that all these advertisements are to get lifetime customers, instead, I thought it is to help students with very little money. Throughout the class, I learned that advertisements around us are constantly stimulating our willingness to buy a product, putting on the image that “consuming” is good, and producing ideal customers that value consumption.
The last topic was the connection between corporations and society. Pfizer has headquarters in Grand Central Station, Manhattan, New York City. They are making efforts to improve the area as a PR. In my opinion, things can turn out negatively when the connection between community and corporation becomes too strong. For example, corporations can become hugely influential and powerful enough to change public policy or have a dictatorship in a town like we can see in “Celebration” by Disney. This connects with a Micky Mouse Law and how copyright terms changed from 60 years to 70 years by the influence of the Walt Disney Company.
