Today's class was one of the most exciting and interesting classes throughout 2nd term. In fact, we had recently learned about the political compass in Social Studies class. However, today's class went even further and tried to find where we actually place in the compass. There are 6 pages of a questionnaire that each asks about your opinion on different aspects. For the result, as expected, I placed the bottom left, which shows that I am politically left, and economically libertarian similar to most of my classmates.

Firstly, it was shocking to know how most of the powerful politicians in the world are placing upper right. According to Mr.Paterson, standard people with a general sense of value and ethic places bottom left, opposite of most politicians. It made me wonder why people are choosing and voting for politicians who have the opposite thinking. However, I noticed that people don’t have many choices. For example, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton that run United States Presidential Election recently are all upper right. Japan also chooses the prime minister from the Liberal Democratic Party that places the upper right.

Secondly, I penetrated into the situation in Japan more deeply. Although people don’t have the right to choose presidents directly, they can go to the election and vote for a party that matches their thinking. People with very right or left thinking tend to have high voting rates and are politically active. We can see this from how Nihon Ishin no Kai, the Japan innovation party(extremely upper right) increased their seats in this autumn’s House of Representatives Election. On the other hand, people with standard thinking tend to have low interest in the election and even if they did, Japanese people would choose the most major and stable middle-like party which is the LDP. I feel like young people in Japan really need to start paying attention to politics and go voting. That way, we can maybe move the world in a positive direction.
