Today, we discussed the political system in the group. The team is a country with 8 members. The political system on our topic was mainly the voting system. There were mainly two ideas for the Election system.

The first idea is to choose one leader by public general’s votes. Now in Japan, people don’t get to directly choose a leader and this is causing their interests in politics to decrease. By doing this way, I believe more people would go to the election, and result in country’s democracy get more complete.

The second idea is to choose 8 representatives of different ages, gender, and economic power. For example, representative of students, workers, elderlies, poor, middle class, and rich. They give votes based on supporters' opinions. 2 of them would be the leader and the educator who has vetos. It is kind of similar to what the UN Security Council is doing right now so I’m a little bit concerned about how can vetos be possibly used.

For the rules, our group could not reach one conclusion. In my opinion, voting rights should be given to every people who live in Japan even if they don’t have Japanese nationality or are caught up in jail. For the Japanese people who live abroad, right would be given if the topic hugely influences their life abroad or their family in Japan.

To conclude, it was a new and stimulating experience to propose a political system. It became an opportunity for me to rethink what we have in Japan and how incomplete what we have in our society now is.
