The Kite Runnner Chapter 23

Amir fainted and moved to the hospital. People asked numerous questions but the only thing in his thought was Sohrab. At the bottom of the heart, Amir thanked the child because he had probably died by then if Sohrab didn't attack by slingshot.

In Chapter 23, Amir faded out again and again when he saw Sohrab, people with green hats, Dr. Faruqi, Aisha, and Farid. While losing consciousness, he saw the dream of Baba fighting with the bear which was a popular heroic story. However, one thing was different from the story. Amir was Baba and Baba was Amir. This scene was symbolism and implies how Amir finally became similar to Baba in a positive way and how he was fighting with his past to redeem sins through liberating Sohrab. One day, a stranger came into the room, stared at Amir for a moment, and left. Maybe, he was the Taliban who came to reconnaissance. The fight between Amir and Assef was over Amir’s fair win.

Dr. Faruqi told Amir, ‘’you’re very lucky to be alive’’. In fact, he went through some very serious injuries like broken bones or lacerations and kept on suffering for the whole two days. Moreover, the impact had cut his upper lip in two like a harelip, like Hassan.

In the hospital, Amir had a little conversation with Sohrab and Farid. The child actually knew him because Hassan talked about old times so much. Amir didn’t even tell Soraya about the incident and readers are able to see that Hassan and Amir’s recognition was completely different. Farid brought information that Rahim Khan was gone from Kabul and left a letter for Amir.

Letter

Hassan told Rahim what Amir did

Forgive yourself

A man who has no conscience, no goodness, does not suffer

hope the suffering comes to an end with this journey to Afghanistan

Why Baba hiding truth to Amir and Hassan

Kabul in the 1970s was a strange world where some things mattered more than the truth
