The Kite Runner Chapter 24

     Chapter 24 takes place in Islamabad and progresses mainly with Amir and Sohrab. The main incident was that Sohrab disappeared while Amir was taking a nap. Sohrab was alone in the mosque parking and Amir found him after long searching. The reason for disappearance was the concern of god putting him in hell for destroying the eyeball of Assef and receiving sexual harassment. As a parent, Amir tried to relieve the boy by replying that Assef committed too much sin so he deserved it and Hassan must have been proud of a son for saving his best friend. 

     The same night, Amir proposed Sohrab to live in the U.S with him and Soraya. Sohrab didn't give an answer for a week because he was worried that but one afternoon he asks what San Francisco is like. He says he is scared that the couple would get tired of him someday and put into an orphanage as a result. Amir swore that won’t happen, and Sohrab finally agreed to move the U.S.

     The next day, Amir and Soraya visited the American embassy. The personnel there told that the adoption of a child without unverified blood relationships and death certificate of Hassan would be almost impossible. Amir consulted an immigration attorney called Faisal and learned the only option. He can put Sohrab in an orphanage, apply for the adoption, and wait up to two years for the government to admit. That night, when Sohrab heard the fact of going back to the orphanage, he panicked and screamed that children would bully him and fell asleep in Amir’s arms after tiredness of crying. 

He decided to call Soraya and confess everything while Sohrab was sleeping. She proposed to ask Sharif, a family member who works for the U.S. immigration department, or INS. Sharif answered there are ways to keep Sohrab in the country once he’s in. Amir was really glad and went to inform Sohrab. However, Sohrab was bleeding and unconscious in the bathtub.
