Today, Mr. Paterson taught us a website called Turnitin. Most schools abroad are very rigid in plagiarism and the server often drops. Therefore, students and teachers can check maximumly only three times a day. Some teachers ban using this website but Mr. Paterson allowed us for this assignment and this became my first opportunity to use.
Firstly, Turnitin shows the percentage of plagiarism in the book review. My rate was quite high and Mr. Paterson expected it to be down to 10%. The plagiarised part was concentrating on the summary of the story and low in the criticism part. Turnitin recognizes the plagiarized words when three words are the same as the original text. I checked my writing to find out which part I copied and pasted. However, some parts of the result were unconvincing because ''The Kite Runner'' and characters' names, and sentences I quoted using Zotero were authenticated too. Maybe, I should change some simple sentences to more complicated ones.
Secondly, I tried to decrease the percentage of plagiarism to 10 percent. For the introduction and summary paragraphs, I wrote it again from the start so the original 'Book Review'' and TII'' are completely different. After improving and changing, 46 percent decreased and I'm quite satisfied.
Conclusively, this was my first time on Turnitin, but I realized that I was unknowingly plagiarizing. Even if I'm still a junior high school student, plagiarism is not allowed so I want to take more care in the next assignment.
