Website Reflection
The final assignment for Grade 4 Term 3 class was making a website related to media. With my team members Akie, Yuna, Tomoka, Yuki, we decided on the topic which is an advertisement. I always had a huge interest in marketing and advertisement, and I noticed that some commercials that we see on social media and television are unethical or can influence an individual's mental health in a negative way. It is something that we see so often, and our sense of value and opinion can be easily and naturally manipulated. A good example is advertisements depicting family and fixing or strengthening gender roles as a result. Therefore, I decided to focus on the relationship between "Gender and Advertisement" by focusing on PRs that provoked controversy.
Firstly, we put the bio of the team members on the home page. I gained experience writing credibility generating bio through two years of the class, and I could fully use that learning in this website. Personal background such as who I am and how I and advertisement connects is a significant point that needs to be told to the readers.
Secondly, I put sentences, photos, an infographic, and a slide into my page. The sentences include an introduction that attracts the readers, body paragraphs that focuses on 4 types of advertisement that can possibly gather criticism and a conclusion that summarizes the body paragraph as well as explaining what it means to create a politically correct advertisement. I believe the article became something that makes readers think, and question what they are seeing in their everyday lives. For the infographic, I tried to schematize what is written on the body paragraphs in coordinate, and organize them to make the idea easier to understand. The creation of the slide became a brand new experience in Mr.Paterson's class as it required more words and sentences to tell messages to readers without the speech. I knew he hates bullet points, so I put some effort to create an effective and easy-to-understand slide without the bullet points.
To conclude, this website became a culmination of what I learned from three years of classes. Not only the technical skill to create it, but the ability to choose correct information from the media, writing skills that can communicate to the readers, and considering deeply about the issue while utilizing what we studied about media.
