Presentation Reflection
On September 15th, I finished my book review presentation. Soon after that, I felt a little disappointed by the few mistakes that I made. However, I watched my video continuously until today and evaluated it from the audience’s point of view. There were advantages that I grew from last year as well as some bad points I need to improve.
Firstly, from the title slide to the author’s basic information part, my nervousness was shown in various ways. For example, I was looking at the computer screen before finishing the title slide and introduction which made me look hasty and less concentrated in communication with the audience. Moreover, when I switched my slides from “Khaled Hosseini” to “Early Life in Kabul”, there was a little time between and I said ‘’um’’ which made the atmosphere quite awkward. I made a similar error when moving onto the summary of the book part. I was directly looking at the screen to remember what was next and it was too obvious. Also, I just stood still instead of walking to the other side of the computer and constantly looking at the screen. How I touched my hair in “Social Class and Ethnic Tension” might have distracted the audience.
Secondly, the summary and critique part was the most significant part of my presentation. During the presentation, I didn’t notice but my voice was smaller than usual. I could hardly hear it in the video. The summary part was where I put the most effort in because I rather focused on the theme of the novel than the specific event. However, I forgot what to say at the “Betrayal and Redemption” part and stopped talking for about five seconds. I wanted to tell the author’s messages in the storyline and how it connects with the readers but ended up not being able to.
Lastly, for the ending part and overall reflection, I believe I did pretty well and my effort could be seen in the presentation. My one last thing included a message that I came up with using my experience and what kind of image I had against Afghanistan before reading the novel. I didn’t make a slide for the summary but this helped me avoid the speech finishing like a repetition of the outline. However, because I couldn’t understand the difference with the summary, my conclusion became very short and included only a few sentences. I stated that my photo credit and license. I made slides for summary and one last thing but didn't write anything on it so that's is a little concern. Overall, I used font types called ''Georgia'' and ''Impact'', causing the slideshow to be inconsistent and time was quite short (6 minutes 40 seconds).
