Today, Mr. Paterson told new students presentation technics we learned last year and in the first term. We got free time to submit our improved book review as many of us had forgotten the accurate deadline. In this blog, I want to reflect on my learnings through working on improving book reviews following Turnitin's advice.
Firstly, I made many grammar mistakes. I used Grammarly to check my writing but maybe some were not noticed by the software. In addition, Grammar and Turnitin had different opinions sometimes. For example, Grammar recommended to put an article before the word like ''the Taliban'' but Turnitin advised to remove it. I would not rely on this advice entirely and research it by myself.
Secondly, Turnitin pointed out the passive voices in my sentences. I tend to get pointed out by websites in parts where I wrote about Hassan being bullied or Amir trying to redeem his sins. These were emotional stories of the novel and I described it that way unconsciously too.
Conclusively, I fixed my grammar mistakes and passive voices that were suggested by Turnitin. It became a new experience to write an academic book review that is completely different from the essays I often write.
