First Semester Final Blog
2020, became an extraordinary year that would probably remain in world history. Tokyo took on a lot of damage from the Corona Virus and TGUISS was forced to cloth the school. From Mar to May, students learned online and went back to normal classes from June. Through taking lessons, I was able to notice the advantages and disadvantages of each style by comparing it. In Mr. Paterson's class, we mainly focused on book review and presentation, gradually promoting the whole project. In this final blog, I would reflect online and offline classes, book reviews, and presentations.
Firstly, the comparison between online and offline classes gave me new learnings. In online, students can manage the time and take the class whenever or wherever they want to at a suitable speed which might gain understanding. However, there are disadvantages for students who need to share the device with family members or has internet restriction. In addition, the house is full of factors that often impede concentration. On the other hand, the offline class can boost students' motivation as it includes a little conversation, and is easier to share opinions. The problem was that some teachers allowed teamwork while some didn't and it was very confusing so I want the school to make it common.
Secondly, I was able to utilize many websites to make my book review even better. In the class, Mr. Paterson taught us the functions and features of each website so I could follow the most reliable suggestion. For example, my plagiarism was pointed out by Turnitin during the LE class. I was really shocked when I saw the high rate because I never knew I was copying and pasting that much. However, at last, I could improve the percentage thanks to the app.
Finally, my skills in making a presentation slide improved from last year. In second grade, we worked on basic presentation technics, and just following the class took all my effort. On the other hand, I believe I can digest it properly and be more particular about every element this year.
To conclude, the first semester's online and offline class, book review, and presentation project were full of learning. I would try my best next term and keep on preparing for the presentation.
